2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 To Wear $52,995 Sticker?.

The Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] will have a new performance bargain on its hands if reports of the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350’s pricing prove accurate. When it goes on sale next year, the latest Mustang variant, which made its debut a fortnight ago at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, will bring to the table a new 5.2-liter V-8 with a flat-plane crank, unique body modifications, magnetorheological suspension, a Torsen limited-slip differential, more than 500 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, plus much, much more—including perhaps a very reasonable $52,995 price tag.

The pricing information was first reported by the website Horsepower Kings, citing a Blue Oval source. The website also reports that the cars’s Tech Package, which adds things like power adjustable seats, premium audio and better infotainment options, will cost an additional $2,995.

Watch The Utterly Heroic R35 Nissan GT-R Drift Car Attack The Hakone Hillclimb!.

There is nothing more quintessential to Japanese tuner car culture than the touge run. In Motorhead magazine’s latest video feature, Takada and his crew sent an invitation to an eclectic range of racing teams to gather at the amazing Mazda Turnpike of Japan’s Hakone Mountain for a special hillclimb event.

The Mazda Turnpike officially begins at a tiny toll booth at the base of the mountain and will wind all way up 8 kilometers before reaching the mountain’s peak. First to come face to face with Hakone is the special Team Studie SuperGT-spec BMW Z4.

In the name of science and progress, Team Studie BMW racing driver Ara Seiji also pilots a rare yellow Mk 2 Ford GT40 to give some context on how much racing technology has improved over the years.

Next up, professional D1 GP driver Kawabata Masato muscles his Toyo Tires R35 Nissan GT-R drift car up the mountain pass.

According to Masato, his GT-R approaches the terrifyingly high Hakone bridge at full throttle on fifth gear. No doubt, Masato’s maximum attack drift run is some next level stuff. Your move, Mr. Ken Block!

Mighty Mite: New Three-Cylinder Engine Has Big Role In Volvo’s Future

Mighty Mite: New Three-Cylinder Engine Has Big Role In Volvo’s Future.

The three-cylinder engine is slated to hit the market in a few years. With its help, the Swedish automaker expects to meet aggressive corporate fuel economy and Euro 7 emissions requirements in 2020 without the need for alternative technology such as plug-in hybrids, said Peter Martens, Volvo’s vice president of research and development.

That doesn’t mean Volvo is opposed to hybrid vehicles — just that the company does not want to have to depend on them to comply with legislative mandates.

Volvo, now owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, is reinventing itself with an $11 billion investment from its Chinese parent company. It is eschewing any engine larger than a four-cylinder (which is what the V40 has now) and is intent on meeting all efficiency and emissions requirements globally with conventional gasoline and diesel power.

Volvo Cars Cuts Back Auto Show Glitz in Marketing Shift – Bloomberg

Volvo Cars Cuts Back Auto Show Glitz in Marketing Shift – Bloomberg.

Volvo Car Group is shifting its focus from auto shows, where carmakers vie for influential eyeballs in an atmosphere of glamor and glitz, to market more directly to buyers instead.

Starting next year, Volvo Cars will take part in just one motor show per region: Geneva in Europe, Shanghai or Beijing in China and Detroit in the U.S., the Gothenburg, Sweden-based company said today.

Still, the carmaker plans to increase its marketing budget by spending more on e-commerce, dealerships and an annual event to promote its models.
